It has been about 6 months since receiving my M.Arch, and like most graduates I was anxious to start my journey as an architect. However, graduating in this economic climate is not the most ideal situation, especially in this industry.
Long story short, I have managed to find a temporary position at a start up design firm in DC, where I am not sure if I will be permanent or not since my life is at the hands of the economy and bank lenders. I grew up in the DC region, and had no intention of coming back after graduating (either for my undergrad or grad). However, situations keep dragging me back. I understand this is where my network is, and the city is one of the few least affected by this economic crisis so naturally this is where I will keep coming back to get started.
After my adventures in Europe during graduate school, its been shocking to be back in a city that I personally find very bland an uninspiring. Today, with my exam study materials in hand, I have just come to accept the fact that I will be here for a while, at least until I am Registered as an Architect. I just need to give this city a chance and uncover its subtle greatness, perhaps even some elegance. During this 2-3 year long process, I have vowed to make the best out of working in DC. I will try my best to utilize this blog to highlight architecture, design and development of DC that I find interesting. I will also share the experience of an Emerging Architect (Internship experience and tips on the Registration Exams).
End of the day, I want others in similar situation to be able to relate and once in a while, be entertained by unique characteristics of this otherwise static city.
